Detailed Safari Itinerary
Day 1 Kilimanjaro airport: On arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, met by a Dove Safaris Driver/guide who will transfer you by car through Arusha National Park to Hatari Lodge (60 mins). Depending on the time of day that you arrive at the lodge, breakfast, lunch, dinner or late dinner will be served on the veranda overlooking Mount Kilimanjaro. In the late afternoon sundowners will be served either at the lodge on the wooden platform extending across the Momella meadow or down at the Momella lakes where hippo, waterbuck, flamingo, geese and numerous other water birds congregate. At both settings Mounts Kilimanjaro and Meru dominate the horizon. ‘’The sun disappeared behind Mt. Meru... The snows of Kilimanjaro reflected in the dark mirror of its granite peak. Day 2 Arusha National Park. After breakfast your guide will take you on a full day’s game drive through Arusha National Park to its Ngurdoto Crater reaching Buffalo viewpoint before midday. From here you will have an excellent view across Ngurdoto Crater towards the sunlit volcanic walls of Mt. Meru. The crater floor, home to herds of buffalo, giraffe, warthog as well as elephant, is a ’mini reserve’ within the Park. From here you will walk along the crater rim to the northern side where a picnic lunch will be served in the bush. After lunch, your guide will drive you through the ’Little Serengeti’ looking for zebra, bushbuck and elephant before returning to Hatari Lodge for afternoon tea, coffee and cake. (For those people who arrived late on Day 1, sundowners will be served at the Momella Lakes where hippo, waterbuck, flamingo, geese and numerous other water birds congregate). Dinner and overnight at Hatari Lodge.
Day 3 Arusha National Park. Early morning wake up with the striking sunlit panorama of Mt Meru outside your window After a quick cup of coffee and muffins you will leave with your guide and head up through the fragile mountain forest on the slopes of Mt Meru. Drive to the Tululisia viewpoint where you will get on foot and walk to the Crater floor at 2,400 metres. This takes a couple of hours. The damp misty atmosphere created with the combination of mosses, ferns, orchids, fire lilies and lichens remind you of an extraordinary fantasy world from your childhood. Return to the viewing point for a picnic lunch, the view is spectacular. Look out over the canopy of the mountain forest, across Arusha National Park towards the Momella Lakes and Mkuru Plains and finally on the horizon, the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro. You will return to the lodge for an afternoon siesta, tea, coffee and cake. Dinner and overnight at Hatari Lodge. .
Day 4 Arusha National Park. This morning you will be taken on a short game drive to the Momella lakes for a morning’s canoe trip. Paddle peacefully beside large flocks of flamingo, next to buffalo grazing on the grassy shoreline, watching waterbuck and warthog, constantly surrounded by the variety of wetland water birds and migrants on and around the lakes. Picnic lunch on the shores before returning for a leisurely afternoon at the lodge Dinner and overnight at Hatari Lodge. .
Day 5 Kilimanjaro airport. After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro airport for flight Back Home or Zanzibar beach Holiday
