Kenya Explorer Safari

A safari combining some of Kenya's best wildlife areas in a varied itinerary, offering game drives in Amboseli, Nakuru and the Masai Mara, as well as walks with Maasai trackers and night game drives in the Selenkay & Ol Kinyei Conservancies. On this safari you are guaranteed to see 4 of 'the Big 5' - elephant, lion, rhino and buffalo - with an excellent chance of seeing leopard (the elusive 5th member!), as well as Nakuru's flamingo millions and an enormous variety of other animals.

Day 1. Nairobi to Amboseli
Depart Nairobi and drive south to Selenkay Conservation Area (a 4 hour journey of 102 miles), arriving at Amboseli Porini Camp before lunch. Afternoon tea, then you will be escorted on a walk by Maasai warriors to a village to get an insight into their fascinating culture and way of life. Return to camp for a shower, dinner and overnight at Amboseli Porini Camp.

Day 2. Amboseli National Park
Awake to the noisy calls of the birds. After an early breakfast, we drive through the bush on our private track into Amboseli National Park, for a full morning of game viewing. Following a picnic lunch in the park, we return to Porini Camp later in the afternoon. In the evening you will go on a game drive in Selenkay Conservancy, stopping for a sundowner at a scenic viewpoint, followed by a night game drive to look for nocturnal animals such as aardvarks, serval cats, caracals, bat-eared foxes, African wild cats, and other species. Return to camp for dinner and overnight at Amboseli Porini Camp.

Day 3. Lake Nakuru National Park
Brief early morning game drive followed by breakfast and then transfer back to Nairobi, arriving before 13.00. After lunch at the Village Market, you will be transferred by minibus to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving mid-afternoon at Lion Hill Lodge, your home for 2 nights, with its splendid views across the lake. After tea you will take a game drive to see the huge numbers of flamingo which are concentrated along the lake shore. In addition to the birdlife for which Nakuru is so well known, the park is home to many other species, including lion, leopard, both rhino species, buffalo, the rothschild's giraffe, zebra, impala and waterbuck.Lion Hill Lodge

Day 4. Lake Nakuru National Park
An early morning game drive before breakfast to try to find leopard, which are frequently sighted in Lake Nakuru Park. Return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast you will take a further drive to seek out the 2 species of African rhino found in the park, returning before lunch. The afternoon is at your leisure, perhaps relaxing by the lodge swimming pool before an evening game drive in the park.at Lion Hill Lodge

Day 5. flight to the Mara
After breakfast you will drive back to Nairobi, arriving for lunch at the Carnivore Restaurant, after which you will check in for the 50 minute flight to the Mara. The next 2 nights you stay at Mara Porini Camp. In the evening you will take a game drive to explore the area around the camp and to seek out the wildlife for which the Mara is famous.Mara Porini Camp

Day 6. full day in the Mara
A full day in the Mara with a picnic lunch, when you can expect to find lions as well as many of the other species found there, including leopard, cheetah, hyena, elephant, rhino, topi, eland, wildebeest, zebra, hippo and buffalo.

Day 7. Transfer to the airstrip
Transfer to the airstrip late morning for the 11.00 flight back to Nairobi, arriving around 12.15.

A seven day road safari combining 2 nights Amboseli Porini Camp (Selenkay Conservancy), with walks and night drive, game drive in Amboseli for viewing elephants close up, a visit to Lake Nakuru to stay 2 nights to see the flamingos and with an excellent chance of seeing rhino and leopard, followed by 2 nights at Mara Porini Camp (Ol Kinyei), with walks and night drive and game drive in the Maasai Mara, famous for lions, cheetahs and leopards. [Minimum 2 people]

PRICES include road transfer  to Amboseli Porini,  Amboseli  park fees and conservancy fees, Drive to Nairobi for lunch at the Village Market, 2 nights Lion Hill Lodge, Lake Nakuru National Park, with game drives in minibus, park fees included.  Transfer to Nairobi for return flight to Maasai Mara and 2 nights  Mara Porini Camp or similar, park fees and conservancy fees included. All game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, full board and free house wines, beer and soft drinks (Porini only).

Exclusive use of vehicle at Porini Camps $375/day (2010),  Afternoon departure after lunch $45 per person (2010).

Each tent has a double & single bed, 3rd adult in tent charged at normal rate

Children (8-15 years)  60% if sharing with 2 adults; If sharing with 1 adult the adult pays single supp and child pays 60%; 2 children in own tent 75% of adult rate each; 4th child in tent is strongly discouraged due to limited space in tent and shower/toilet facilities.
