Kenya Family Safari

A one-week safari with a difference! Designed specially for families, this holiday offers comfortable accommodation and activities for the children. Beginning with some unforgettable animal encounters near Nairobi, your wildlife safari continues to 2 very different reserves, rich with game - Samburu and the Masai Mara. There is an option of a beach holiday afterwards. Travel between the parks is by air to avoid long road journeys. Accommodation is in luxury tented camps and all game drives are in 4x4 safari vehicles (not vans).
The Adventure Club for ages under 12 include activities such as build your own mini Maasai homestead, have a close brush with a toothbrush tree, learn to make a fire with a pair of sticks, catch and study the brightest butterflies, plant a tree and help bring back the rains, cast big cat tracks from the real thing, make friends quiver with your own bow, learn how to identify birds of all feathers, and stalk victory in our bush treasure hunts. The Adventure Club for ages 12-17 include activities such as bush orienteering, first aid, snakes, bird identification, tree identification, mammal behaviour studies, and guided bush walks.

Day 1. Nairobi
Met by our representative at Nairobi airport and transfer to the Mayfair Holiday Inn, Nairobi, for 2 nights Bed & Breakfast. Mayfair Holiday Inn has attractive gardens and 2 swimming pools ideal for families.

Day 2. Visit the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
Visit the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage overlooking Nairobi National Park. As the expert handlers introduce the lively elephant and rhino orphans and feeding time begins, you will have a close encounter with these delightful little creatures which come up to visitors to be stroked. Then on to the nearby Giraffe Centre. From its tree-house balconies you can look these graceful mammals in the eye. The giraffes at the Centre are so at ease with their human visitors that they will happily eat from your hand! Lunch at Karen Blixen Cottages and return to Mayfair Holiday Inn.

Day 3. Samburu Reserve
Transfer to Nairobi Wilson Airport for the 1 hr flight to Samburu for lunch and 2 nights FB at Samburu Intrepids. Children can take part in the activities of the Adventurers' Club. Afternoon game drive in Samburu Reserve. Dinner and overnight Samburu Intrepids.

Day 4. Samburu Reserve
Morning and afternoon game drives, and children's activities. Samburu Intrepids, FB.

Day 5. Samburu to Masai Mara
Fly direct from Samburu to Masai Mara for lunch and 2 nights FB at Mara Intrepids. Children can take part in the activities of the Adventurers' Club. Afternoon game drive in Mara Reserve. Dinner and overnight Mara Intrepids.

Day 6. Masai Mara Reserve
Morning and afternoon game drives, and children's activities. Mara Intrepids, FB.

Day 7. fly back to Nairobi
Morning game drive and fly back to Nairobi arriving 12.15 (option to go on to Mombasa for a stay at a beach hotel)
